In this case, the series gave Camille more control because she refuses her mother’s tender treatment a few times at first. Only later does she submit to her mother in an effort to save Amma from more “medicine” but also to deliberately entrap her mother.
Carrie White may have been unfashionable and unpopular, but in the face of unbearable humiliation, her gift of telepathy is turned into a weapon of horror and destruction that her classmates would never forget. The terror of Stephen King's legendary debut novel makes for a timeless thriller.

What's remarkable about this book is that it focuses on some of the most damaged and interesting women I've ever seen in fiction. Strong women in fiction usually means one of three things:

April: Violet and I play Kelsey and Jodes, and we’re best friends with Amma. For me personally, Jodes is very different than how I am in real life and very different than how I would ever act. So that aspect of it was a little challenging. But it’s really fun to get to explore and do things you would never get to do in real life. In Sharp Objects, you can get an insight into Jodes, Kelsey and Amma’s friendship. It’s so much of a pecking order, and I feel like Jodes is at the very bottom and gets picked on by Kelsey and Amma. I could instantly connect to those moments in my life where I’ve been made to feel less than or that I need to suck up to my friends so that they like me. So in that aspect, I could relate.

From the first couple of pages, maybe even the first, I acknowledged my ass-umptions. The writing is astute in its observations, visceral in its descriptions. And the narrator is all messed up, which hear, hear. I actually stopped when I realized I'd read about 100 pages without looking away, and thought to myself: I should read more thrillers, huh? Well, no. Most of them that I have come across are not this confidently, this surgically composed. There is no fluffy stuffing here, just good, straight storytelling with the added bonus of cautiously crafted prose. Also, it's really fucking creepy, and me being creeped out by anything at this point in my life is a pretty tall order. I mean, aside from spiders and needles and being buried alive and over-sexualized pre-teen Lolita-types who collect and dress like that Bratz line of toy dolls. Now that shit is creepy. Fortunately, a couple of those things are directly addressed in this novel. My goodness, it must be terrifying having a daughter, or being an adult dude today. Or a human at all. Yeah, it is.

it also doesnt help that this felt rather slow to me. a lot of time is spent on character development, and when you dont relate to or care for any of the characters, it starts to drag. the only parts i was interested in was when things about the case started to actually unfold.

As his squadron began its approach to the Rhône, German anti-aircraft guns let loose and flak filled the air. Hurtling through space, the man in the glass cone watched the shining metal of a damaged bomber fall. A minute later, he was steering his plane. His pilot and the co-pilot had taken their hands off the flight controls. It was time for him to drop his bombs, and so, to ensure a steady approach to the target, he commanded the plane’s movements using the automatic bombsight, steering left, steering right. For about 60 seconds, no evasive action would be possible, just a sure zeroing in.

Clevinger (Pico Alexander), the know-it-all soldier next to him, thinks he knows what the major can do to train, and speaks up. Scheisskopf punishes Clevinger and Yo-Yo when Yo-Yo tries to stop his buddy from talking. When the parade comes, Clevinger passes out, and the two of them are punished again. “They hate you before you got here, they hate you here, and they’re going to keep on hating you after you leave,” he tells Clevinger.
The women talk about Calhoun Day, an annual celebration of the town’s founding, and it’s held on the Preaker/Crellin property. Camille seems concerned that it might not be a good idea with the current state of affairs. But the other women seem to think it will be good to get everyone’s mind off of things. Then, after asking Camille who she thinks is guilty of the latest murder (and she deftly turns the question back to them without answering it herself), each woman offers her own theory. Jackie believe Bob Nash (Ann’s father) is guilty, primarily because she has caught him staring at her chest several times before. Another woman at the table agrees with the Nash theory, claiming that Bob has “always had it in for the Keenes, and we all know why.” (She does not elaborate.)

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is based on the story of the same name and through working with Warner Bros. the game also features the sets and environment from the film adaptation. [13] The PC version was developed by software company KnowWonder and was built on the Unreal Engine which allowed for it to play on both software and hardware-accelerated modes. [13] [14]EA was granted rights to the Harry Potter games in August 2000. [15] The game's executive producer Chris Graham stated that the game was aimed at eight- to fourteen-year-olds with its puzzle-based gameplay. [13] The PlayStation version was developed by Argonaut as an action- platform game which integrated a 3D environment into its gameplay. [16] The Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance versions were individually developed by Griptonite Games and Eurocom. [17] [18]

Conversely, another description from early in Prisoner of Azkaban can also be cited: "They were there, both of them, sitting outside Florean Fortescue's Ice-Cream Parlour, Ron looking incredibly freckly, Hermione very brown, both waving frantically at him." [45] Some claim that this is a direct description of her skin color, while others claim that it's a relative description of the results of a tan acquired over the summer break.

In the book, Camille and Amma also live together (St. Louis on the show, Chicago in the book), but it’s not the smile-inducing, magical musical montage that the show provides. Instead, Amma is “wildly needy and afire with anxiety.” She cultivates an obsession with female serial killers, which her therapist attributes to Amma “trying to find a way to forgive her mother.” She slaps Camille for buying the wrong color upholstery for her dollhouse. The two don’t share a teary but languorous ride to Adora’s prison cell, where they hug and share sisterly glances. Instead, it’s Camille who later visits Amma in prison, where she asks for the answers we never get in the show.

Sean Biggerstaff (Oliver Wood)
The crazy ironic predicaments Yosarian, the focal character, finds himself in are pure genius. And some of the subplots in this novel are better than classics in and of themselves. But, even with that in mind, Catch-22 is incredibly complex. The chapters can at times feel like puzzle pieces that don't connect to anything else. The beginning, although entertaining as hell, is particularly convoluted. For the first ten chapters or so, it feels like character introduction after character introduction--like there's no plot until about 30% of the way through the book...

Stream It Or Skip It: 'Our House' on Netflix, an Odd Little Horror Story About Kids Summoning Their Dead Parents
Harry's dream may actually foreshadow events in the entire series, rather than in just this book. It could also be an unconscious attempt by Voldemort to influence Harry's actions using Legilimency, as he will in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. While this is neither confirmed nor refuted by later events, it is unlikely that Voldemort was consciously using Legilimency; Voldemort started deliberately using Legilimency on Harry after he learned there was an existing connection at about Christmas in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. We do learn later in the series, however, that Harry gains the ability to tune into Voldemort's thoughts at will without the Dark Lord being aware. This may be an early incident where neither Harry nor Voldemort are aware it is happening.

In addition to his Sci-Fi/Fantasy work, Hurt has also taken part in projects aimed at children and families. He starred as Hazel in the 1978 movie, Watership Down, voiced General Woundwort in the 1999-2001 TV series of the same name, and starred as Snitter in the 1982 movie, The Plague Dogs; all three of which are adapted from two novels of the same names by Richard Adams. Hurt also narrated the 2000 Disney movie, The Tigger Movie, based on A.A. Milne’s Winnie-the-Pooh stories. In 2015, he voiced the character of Sailor John in the Thomas & Friends special, Sodor’s Legend Of the Lost Treasure, as part of the franchise’s 70th anniversary celebrations.

As disturbing details of the two murders resurface, readers are introduced to yet two more characters as equally unpleasant as the first. There is the psychologically unstable (almost emotionally poisonous) personality of her mother and the pathologically sinister and equally disturbed one of the teenage sister. And of course there are the endlessly problematic and mentally crushing details of the small-town's Midwest America (why would one want to read this is beyond my understanding).

WTF did I just read??
One of my first jobs was at a bookstore. When I was a kid my Mom would take me to the mall and I would spend tons of time hanging out at Waldenbooks (who here remembers Waldenbooks?) Right when I became legally old enough to work, I went in and submitted my application and a few weeks later I was selling literature to the masses. Why do I tell you this story on this review, you ask? Well, at the time, young adult/teen literature consisted mainly of RL Stein, Christopher Pike, Beverly Cleary, Judy One of my first jobs was at a bookstore. I read it a third time my junior year, and actually recited a section as a dramatic reading in my Oral Comm class.
