Snape: Good luck today, Potter . Then again, now that you've proven yourself against a troll, a little game of Quidditch should be easy work for you...even if it is against Slytherin. {Leaves, limping.}

But it's only near the end, when Yossarian finally gives in and reflects fully on the episode – its gruesome details and savage lack of meaning – that the novel is transposed into a tragic key. Sure, it's been funny. But all along the comedy has been an expression of horror; it springs from outraged, stupefied humanity. There seems to be something up for grabs in Catch-22's circular logic – where madness begets laughter, and laughter begets madness – that makes me immediately go back and read it again; which is an impulse I think Heller, Yossarian and the rest of the gang would understand.
It sure would, sweetie, it sure would...

Vallée’s use of music, showcased in Big Little Lies, is even more evocative in Sharp Objects. Songs are almost always diegetic in scenes, meaning they end abruptly when a character turns off a car ignition or yanks out an earbud. Many scenes are notably silent, or set to the sounds of cicadas in the woods or conversation fragments nearby. The effect is a spooky kind of realism that balances Sharp Objects’ more extravagant tendencies. The grisliness of the imagery, the aching damage in Camille, the delicate theatricality of Adora, the lovely danger of Wind Gap—all meld to make a series whose darkness is as alarming as it is undeniably enticing.

A few cosmetic differences were necessary or made more sense, such as adding in cell phones to make it feel more contemporary (the book was first published in 2006). The series also swapped in St. Louis for Chicago for where Camille (Amy Adams) lives and works. This made it far easier for her to drive back and forth, scenes that director Jean-Marc Vallée has proven to excel in filming, especially when a contemplative woman is behind the wheel.

What's remarkable about this book is that it focuses on some of the most damaged and interesting women I've ever seen in fiction. Strong women in fiction usually means one of three things:

• The Order of the Phoenix (2003)
• Blue
It's freaky and twisted. It's terrifying and compelling. You'll sit down, grab the book and read it until you've reached the last page. No kiddings here. I read this in one sitting, no pause for water, no pause whatsoever. It'll creep you out and fascinate you and you'll connect with the story on many levels. I did. I connected with the character and I'm still having nightmares about it.

Tell me that Stephenie Meyer is more talented than J.K. Rowling.
While the women are slowly being poisoned at the Crellin household, Chief Vickery and Willis are still trying to piece together what happened to Ann Nash and Natalie Keene. Despite getting arrested for the murders, John Keene is adamant that he didn’t hurt either girl — and when he hears that girlfriend Ashley gave him up to the police, John merely suggests that she wanted to get revenge on him for never sleeping with her.

• Camille has never been framed by the show as a good journalist. She’s a wreck of a woman downing alcohol in water bottles before interviewing her subjects. She makes scant notes, rarely records conversations, makes unethical decisions. But hearing Frank read her final piece about “a very female sort of rage” (which could be the alternate title to the series) I realized she is, at least, a beautiful writer. Related
I shouldn't have said that. I should
As the main title suggests, the plot centres on a legendary alchemical substance which is believed by some to give immortality
She's extremely two faced and thinks she can get away with it. I'll bet you anything, next episode she will try talking to Camille like they are besties and events of this night never even happened.

Amma Crellin 8 episodes, 2018
Amma, of course, played Millie in the Calhoun Day sketch. In rehearsal, she playfully tried to reframe the history as a proto-feminist feat of empowerment, “the world’s first all-female militia!” At the time, you wondered if the point was to highlight Amma as a disruptive new force in the world, maybe even the dawn of a new age.
Definitely. Everybody is acting like this is out of character and all because it's the first time we've seen her take drugs (as if alcohol isn't a drug). We've seen her abuse substances every single episode so far, but they were just all legal ones. This isn't a sharp divergence in character.
Also Amma is setting up that teacher.

Flitwick: Oh, well done! See here, everyone! Ms. Granger' s done it! Oh, splendid!
That's a good explanation, but the reaction from Camille when she saw it, made me feel like it was something else, something bigger. You can instantly tell there was jealousy at the table when Amma called her a kiss-ass. But instant kill that friend...I just thought it was weird, like maybe all of a sudden she wants to kill in hopes to get in jail with her mom? We can speculate, but it just felt blah.
P: Oh, Professor Snape, head of Slytherin house.

Dumbledore: Ah, I'm afraid there are ways in which he can return. Harry, do you know why Professor Quirrell couldn't bear to have you touch him? [Harry shakes his head.] It was because of your mother. She sacrificed herself for you, and that kind of act leaves a mark. [Harry touches his scar.] No, no, this kind of mark cannot be seen. Catch-22 follows Captain John Yossarian in his exploits as a bombardier (that is, a member of a fighter plane crew that is in charge of aiming and releasing bombs) in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. Yossarian has one wish: to survive the madness of war. He's convinced that everyone is trying to kill him, which is understandable seeing as how he's fighting in a war, where everyone really is trying to kill one another. Yossarian has to survive the dangerous combat missions he flies, while Colonel Cathcart continues to increase the number of missions his men must complete.

The book: So mysterious that no one even knows his first name, Major –– de Coverley is considered by the men to be “a colossus” with “a lion’s mane of hair” and a transparent eyepatch. He intimidates the men on base and even breaks a long term of required oath-signing at the mess hall when he simply declares, “Gimme Eat!” Major –– de Coverley is most known for securing apartments for American officers after the front lines have taken over new cities, and he vanishes in Florence after Yossarian adjusts a bomb line on a base map.

In May 2008, Scholastic announced the creation of a 10th Anniversary Edition of the book [40] that was released on 1 October 2008 [41] to mark the tenth anniversary of the original American release. [40] For the fifteenth anniversary of the books, Scholastic re-released Sorcerer's Stone, along with the other six novels in the series, with new cover art by Kazu Kibuishi in 2013. [42] [43] [44] Translations [ edit ]
On the front, the other men are equally as crazy as Yossarian. His roommate, Orr, crash-lands every time he goes on a mission and talks about putting apples and horse chestnuts in his cheeks. Clevinger, a Harvard graduate, argues with Yossarian about whether or not people must obey their institutions and fight the war. Havermeyer munches on peanut butter brittle all the time, loves to shoot innocent field mice with his pistol, and earns the wrath of his men by never taking evasive action on a mission. Doc Daneeka, the squadron's doctor, is a hypochondriac who belittles everyone else's illnesses rather than treating them. Chief White Halfoat constantly gets drunk and brags about his displacement by “Americans” who strike oil wherever he and his family go. McWatt, Yossarian's brainless pilot, irritates Yossarian by flying his airplane a few inches above Yossarian's tent. Hungry Joe has screaming nightmares although he denies them each morning, and he gets into fistfights with the cat that belongs to his roommate. Chaplain Tappman, along with his assistant, has been ejected from the Officers' Headquarters and spends his time peacefully in the woods on the periphery of camp. He tries to stand up against Colonel Cathcart on Yossarian’s behalf, but he is too spineless. His assistant, the atheistic Corporal Whitcomb, constantly abuses the chaplain and collaborates with Colonel Cathcart to have the chaplain court-martialed.

During 1960, Heller prepared a new 758-page typescript from this conflation, and made revisions that included deletion of the original manuscript chapter 18, “Rosoff.” This chapter provided a chronological bridge between the “Soldier in White” chapter, set in the hospital on Pianosa, and “The Soldier Who Saw Everything Twice” chapter, a flashback into Yossarian’s earlier hospital episodes at Lowry Air Base in Denver, Colorado. The deleted chapter included an overlong but delightful digression into “PT” and team sports at Lowry, but Heller soon sensed that this interlude impeded the progress of the narrative. Other digressive episodes would have to be cut as well before the book would go to press.
